Maria Rattseva: North Carolina’s Future Public Relations Professional

Maria Rattseva enjoys public relations because she has always enjoyed making connections with people on a larger scale and building meaningful relationships. She decided to take this love of people and put it to good use, majoring in public relations in order to help strengthen the bond of businesses and their stakeholders every day. 

“I have always wanted to work in a field where I got to do what I loved all the time,” Maria Rattseva said, “The thought of doing the same thing every day was just not for me. Instead, I wanted to work closely with people in all sorts of positions, not just the person at the desk across from mine. Public relations just seemed like the perfect fit.” 

Big plans await Maria as she prepares to graduate next May. Not only is she pursuing a degree in public relations, but she is also minoring in digital marketing, which she hopes will help her greatly in her career. She is unsure of where she would like to go, but she does know that she wants to incorporate her minor into her career, which may lead her outside of Boone and to a larger city within North Carolina post graduation. 

“I have always been interested in marketing, and I would love to experience that side of public relations, possibly helping with product launches or getting involved in other ways with some major brands. Moving to a big city and having a fresh start after college has always been planned for after college. Who knows, maybe I will head to Raleigh or Charlotte. I’ve considered Asheville too,” Rattseva said when discussing her post graduation plans to join the workforce. 

Despite not knowing where she will end up next, Maria Rattseva is determined to succeed in the field. She is open to whatever opportunities may come her way, and she hopes to become a major part of a team that will work together to do great things within the field. With her big aspirations, love of a good challenge and the wealth of knowledge that she has accumulated from her professors at Appalachian State University she will be equipped to pursue her dreams of becoming a public relations professional.
